Cooking a rabbit in the wilderness

I went out this weekend with my Father and brothers. We killed a rabbit, skinned, cooked it and ate it. I wanted to share with all the BushCrafters and Survialists out there how this is done. Here is a link to a video on how to skin, gut and prepare a rabbit. After you have Done that I added some photos of how to cook the rabbit over your fire. This 1st picture shows how to secure the rabbit to the "cooking stick" cooking a rabbit on a spit

A picture is worth a thousand words so I'll let them do most the talking. This 2nd picture shows how you can fix the "cooking stick" over the fire. Note that green wood works best as it doesn't cooking a rabbit over a firecatch fire as easily, but if you can't find a suitable green wood you can always soak the dry wood in water. This will keep it from burning as easily. Also you will want to experiment to find the right balance between coals and flame to cook it correctly. Make sure to cook the meat thoroughly and to check it before eating as it is a wild animal and you want to make sure to make sure it is safe to consume.

And well this third picture doesn't need much much description. It tasted good, like a "gamy" steak is how I would describe it. However I would suggest bringing along some spices eating a rabbit cooked over a fireif you know that you are going to be cooking wild rabbit. Hope you found this helpful, please leave comments, and feel free to ask me any questions you might have.

Happy Bushcrafting!,
